Markers that impact this rating include healthcare, education, employment, social connections, personal health, safety, environment, life expectancy, infrastructure, and access to basic knowledge. Further to this, its major cities are known as some of the most liveable cities in the world. While Switzerland is an expensive country to live in, the average salaries match the bill. The country has an incredibly low unemployment rate along with high salaries and good job security.

What do I need to know before moving to Switzerland?

EU citizens can live and work in Switzerland as long as they have a residence permit. EU citizens searching for work in Switzerland, without having a work contract prior to relocating, are allowed to do so for a period of three months, which can be extended to six months. Non-EU citizens must however have a guaranteed employment contract and work permit before moving to Switzerland. Only after residing in Switzerland for at least ten years will you become eligible to apply for permanent residency.

The majority of people living in Switzerland rent housing instead of buying property. If you want to purchase property in Switzerland, you will need a deposit of at least 20% to qualify for a mortgage. If you’re wondering whether to ship your belongings or sell everything and buy new things once you settle into your new home, the second option will most likely be the easiest since Switzerland does not have a dedicated port to which you can send your goods.
